Synchronize Europe
London, UK
June 18, 2019

Following the successful debut of Synchronize in New York last year, IMN is excited to announce the launch of Synchronize Europe on 18 June 2019 in London. Synchronize is the leading conference dedicated to enterprise and institutional applications of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), blockchain technology and smart contracts within financial services.

Synchronize Europe will host a delegation of senior financial services executives across the buy-side, sell-side, financial market infrastructures, fintech startups, consultancies, vendors as well as regulators and policymakers. Attendees will hear directly from practitioners at some of the largest financial institutions in the world as they rollout production deployments of DLT and learn the most effective ways to evaluate and deploy DLT for their business, how it fits into the existing market structure and what the business requirements of the technology actually are; challenges that have been overcome, from roles and governance, scalability and confidentiality, to interoperability and integration; and how it fits in within larger technology trends, such as cloud, machine learning, and focus on enabling developer productivity.
Synchronize Europe will also include coverage on the institutional applications of custody, trading, and servicing cryptoassets, such as Bitcoin. Until now, financial institutions have mostly been skeptical of cryptocurrencies and other cryptoassets as a means for retail payments and speculation. Recently, several notable entities have announced products and initiatives aimed at the institutional integration of these new assets into the existing financial system and our conference will explore the role that cryptoassets play in the financial services industry from a variety of angles: asset definition, futures trading, the role of trading desks, right through to the risks, benefits and role of regulation in and of institutional investment in these assets.

Synchronize Europe will stand out as the premier event for thought leadership, learning, business development and networking among senior financial services decision makers. We hope that you will join us at this must-attend one day event.

      IMN's Opening Remarks

      It’s All About the Trust

      • As companies move from blockchain concept to production an often overlooked question in the implementation centers around trust. What exactly do we mean by trust? What impact does trust have on blockchain? How do you ensure trust in a blockchain architecture? Learn about answers to these questions and more that will give your project the final block that it needs to go truly into production.
        • Mike DiPetrillo , Senior Director, Blockchain (VMware)

      Finance as a Platform

      • As more financial institutions look and act like tech companies, how can DLT and smart contracts enable entities to open their APIs to third party developers to innovate on top of? How can institutions securely and confidentially allow others to build value added services on top of their data? What will it look like to have a smart contract enabled ecosystem of business processes spanning not just the institutions in the network but software providers and fintech startups on top?
        • Chris Church , Chief Business Development Officer (Digital Asset)
        • Ben Spiegelman , Head of Corporate Development (Symbiont)

      Business Model Change

      • As blockchain technology starts to become reality, it is essential that businesses move beyond their own verticals and trusted partners to create new business ecosystems. For all it's opportunity and hype we can probably all agree it’s a good time to take stock of blockchain-based transformation and discuss how to best position financial services for future.
        • David Treat , Managing Director (Accenture)

      Networking & Refreshment Break

Fireside Chat with the London Stock Exchange

      • Hear from a major global market infrastructure on how the changing technology landscape, including blockchain, smart contracts, and digital assets, affects the local market and what LSEG are doing to adapt to the new world.
        • Yuval Rooz , Co-Founder & CEO (Digital Asset)
        • Ann Neidenbach , CIO (London Stock Exchange Group)

      The Future of Digital Assets

      • As crypto assets become considered as the asset class of the future, what infrastructural changes are required to support custodial services and what does custody and ownership even mean in the context of free flowing assets? What is missing before we will see truely mainstream institutional adoption? What additional protections and automation can be provided that simply weren't possible before?
        • Simon Taylor , Head of Blockchain, Co-Founder (11FS)
        • Nadine Teychenne , Director of Global Product Development (Citi)
        • Hugh Hughes , CEO (Koine)
        • Richard Hay , UK Head of FinTech (Linklaters LLP)
        • Pinar Emirdag , SVP, Head of Digital Product Development & Innovation (State Street)

Bridge Between Private DLT and Public Chains

      • As the difference between "permissioned" and "permissionless" starts to blur, what will define a blockchain network? Will one network or vendor rule them all? Will we see a network of networks, each with different implementations and technologies? How will much will open source and standards play a role in any convergence?
        • Conor Svensson , Chair, Technical Standards Working Group (Enterprise Ethereum Alliance)
        • Brian Behlendorf , Executive Director (Hyperledger)
        • Marley Gray , Principal Architect, Azure Blockchain Engineering (Microsoft)

      Crypto: Are Regulators Ready?

      • As institutional adoption of cryptocurrency picks up, how are regulators adjusting to what was previously seen as a passing fad? From payments, to custody, to stablecoins and crypto-securities, what will the future look like and really how different will it be from traditional digital instruments?
        • Teana Baker-Taylor , Executive Director (Global Digital Finance)
        • Andrew Harvey , Managing Director, Europe (AFME)

      Spotlight on Derivatives

        • Clive Ansell , Head of Market Infrastructure and Technology (ISDA)
        • Lee Braine , Investment Bank CTO Office (Barclays)
        • Kelly Mathieson , Head of Enterprise Solutions (Digital Asset)
        • Shane Edwards , Global Head of Structuring (UBS)

      Networking & Refreshment Break

Post Trade Processing: Risk and Liquidity Management

      • Hear directly from practitioners who are deep into their journey to take DLT into production at a large financial institution. Learn about their experiences from selecting a technology and vendor, through Proofs of Concept, all the way to wholesale replacements of mission critical infrastructure.
        • Gangesh Ganesan , CEO (Peernova)

The Convergence of Smart Contracts and Cloud

      • As public cloud adoption gathers pace within financial services, what role will blockchain play in bridging clouds and on premise deployments? Can it help with a multi-cloud strategy and application portability? With the rise of machine learning and artificial intelligence, can blockchain data be leveraged to provide more efficient inputs? How do different blockchain designs lend themselves to cloud and ML?
        • Andrei Kirilenko , Director, Centre for Global Finance & Technology (Imperial College London)
        • Duncan Johnston-Watt , Co-Founder & CEO (Blockchain Technology Partners)
        • Shaul Kfir , Co-Founder & CTO (Digital Asset)
