Chris Niehaus (New York)

Chris Niehaus has responsibility for the North America business and is a member of the global investment committee. GreenOak is an independent, partner owned, real estate principal investing and advisory firm that seeks to create long-term value for its investors and clients. GreenOak currently has approximately 40 employees with offices in New York, London, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The firm has approximately $2 billion of equity capital under management globally and provides strategic and capital raising advice to a select group of industry leading clients.
Prior to joining GreenOak in 2010, Chris spent 28 years at Morgan Stanley and during his tenure helped build and run one of the leading global real estate banking, lending and investing businesses. He was named Co-Head of Global Real Estate Investment Banking in 1994 and Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley Real Estate from 2006-2010.
While at Morgan Stanley, Chris was an Investment Committee Member for the Morgan Stanley Real Estate and Special Situation Funds from 1994 to 2010. He served as Portfolio Manager for Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund VI International from 2009 to 2010, leading the restructuring and stabilization of the second largest real estate private equity fund, which had over $33 billion of assets in 71 investments in over 20 countries .
Chris has served as Lead Director or Board Member of a number of MSREI investment companies and has significant experience in setting strategic direction, operations, capital structure, and organizational and management structures.
Chris is a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the International Council of Shopping Centers since 1995 and a full member of the Urban Land Institute.
He is a summa cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College, where he chaired the Real Estate Advisory Council and serves on the President’s Leadership Council. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1985. Chris serves as chairman of the board of Student Sponsor Partners, a charitable organization that provides scholarships and mentoring to 1,400 at risk, inner city New York City high school students, as well as being active in several other community organizations.
