Chaz Mueller joined Progress Residential as Chief Executive Officer in June 2018. Mr. Mueller has nearly 25 years of experience building and leading successful public and private operating companies in the multi-family industry:
 
Prior to joining Progress, Chaz served as President of Irvine Company Apartment Communities, a California-based real estate investment firm with more than 58,000 apartment, where he was able to drive significant improvement in performance, resulting in NOI growth 200 bps ahead of Irvine’s public company multi-family peers
 
As CEO of The ConAm Group, an owner and manager of more than 50,000 apartments, Mr. Mueller increased investment activity significantly by establishing new relationships with institutional capital sources, at the same time materially improving the profitability of the management company
 
Mr. Mueller spent nearly 20 years at Archstone, a leading multi-family REIT valued at over $20 billion, where he held various positions including President, COO and CFO.  Mr. Mueller guided the resurgence of the company in the aftermath of the Global Financial Crisis, increasing the equity value of the firm approximately 400% from 2009 to 2012, and helping to orchestrate the subsequent sale of the company to two listed competitors.  Archstone ranked #1 in operating performance while Mr. Mueller ran Operations as COO, surpassing its closest competitor’s growth rate by 220 bps and exceeding the peer group average by 610 bps.  From 1995 to 2007, the then publicly traded Archstone, generated shareholder returns of 742% as compared to 486% for the NAREIT Apartment Index and 323% for the S&P 500 Index.

​​​​​​​Mr. Mueller received a BBA in Real Estate and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
