TQP Capital Partners LLC
Thomas is a principal in TQP Capital Partners, LLC which invests in various sectors of hospitality real estate. He currently owns several hotels and restaurants across the United States including the Ames Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.
Thomas was a partner in the newly merged entity, Benchmark, A Global Hospitality Company after the merger between Gemstone Hotels and Resorts and Benchmark Resorts and Hotels. Additionally, he served as the Managing Director of a Special Investment Vehicle, a GP fund set up to acquire hotel and resort assets for both the Benchmark and Gencom platforms.
Thomas co-founded Gemstone Hotel & Resorts in 1994 making the company one of the premier independent boutique operators in the US. In addition to running the company, Thomas was responsible acquisitions, management contracts and strategic partnerships.
Thomas has over 30 years of experience working in the hospitality industry. Prior to Gemstone, Thomas served as Principal and Chief Executive Officer of Hospitality Investment Counselors. Thomas built the company into one of the top investment banking firms and asset managers in the country, arranging in excess of $1 billion of hospitality transactions including debt financing, equity placement, and individual and portfolio sales.
Thomas was also the Asset Manager for a hotel portfolio valued in excess of $500 million. Along with his capital partner, Hospitality Worldwide Services, as well as with joint venture partners, such as Apollo Real Estate Advisors LP and ING Realty Partners LP, Mr. Prins helped acquire and/or develop over 30 hotels and resorts throughout the US.
In concert with Prime Hospitality, Thomas co-developed eight AmeriSuites in several western US states including Colorado, Arizona, and California. Mr. Prins was also a Principal in the Village at Breckenridge, a mixed-use project that included 450 hotel rooms and condos, as well as retail outlets and restaurants which were all located at the base of the Breckenridge Ski Area.
Prior to co-founding Hospitality Investment Counselors, Thomas served as Manager of the National Hospitality Practice of Kenneth Leventhal & Company in Los Angeles, CA. In this position, Mr. Prins oversaw numerous national and international consulting assignments, with an emphasis on complex, mixed use hotel and resort projects and workouts on financially troubled projects. Prior to Kenneth Leventhal & Company, Thomas was a Senior Consultant for Pannell Kerr Forster in New York City.
Thomas is a visiting professor at the Cornell School of Business – Hotel School Master’s Program. He is a member of the Cornell Hotel Society, the Cornell Real Estate Council, New York Hospitality Council, and the Urban Land Institute. He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of New York. In addition, Thomas sits on the Board of the Frisbee Foundation, Connecticut Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the BD Trade Fairs Advisory Board. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
