Scott Gordon, with more than thirty years in portfolio management, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Silver Spike Capital, a multi-product investment manager focused on the burgeoning cannabis and related health and wellness industries. In addition, he is Chairman of the board of directors of Silver Spike Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: SSPKU) and has served as Chief Executive Officer since its inception.
In August, Silver Spike Acquisition Corp. completed a successful IPO listing on the NASDAQ. More than forty North American institutional investors participated—including a prominent Canadian public pension fund. The transaction raised US$ 250 million and ranked among the largest cannabis-related IPOs ever. It also represented the first cannabis transaction led by a major international investment bank, Credit Suisse, and is one of only a handful of cannabis IPOs to list on a U.S. exchange.
Scott is an early-stage investor since 2014 in several notable cannabis companies, including Egg Rock Holdings, the parent company of Papa & Barkley
, as co-founder and Chairman. The company’s family of cannabis products, combined with related subsidiary assets in manufacturing, processing, and logistics, is one of the most widely recognized brands in California with a ~94% state-wide dispensary penetration rate. The privately held company also has a nation-wide, hemp-based CBD product line.
From 2016 to 2018, Mr. Gordon was also President of Fintech Advisory Inc., investment manager for a multi-billion dollar family office fund focused on long-term and opportunistic investments in emerging markets. From late 2013 to 2016, Mr. Gordon served as a Portfolio Manager at Taconic Capital Advisors, a multi-strategy investment firm.
Prior to joining Taconic, Mr. Gordon was a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Caxton Associates from 2009 to 2012. He was also a Senior Managing Director and Head of Emerging Markets at Marathon Asset Management from 2007 to 2009. Earlier in his career, Mr. Gordon held leadership positions at Bank of America and ING Capital.
Mr. Gordon was a founding member of the Emerging Markets business at JP Morgan where he worked upon graduating from Bowdoin College in 1983.
