Joanna joined Figure and Provenance in May 2019 to build its business in Asia and the Middle East, including asset backed lending and capital markets transactions. Figure is a San Francisco-based fintech that has originated over $700M in US home equity loans since its founding in 2018. Provenance was awarded the 2019 Lendit Blockchain Innovator of the Year award, and has automated and processed over $1Bn of transactions. Figure has a $1Bn warehouse line with Jefferies on Provenance, and in 3Q 2019, Caliber Home Loans became the second originator on Provenance. Figure has raised over $225M to date from MUFG, HCM (Foxconn) and other leading investors, and was last valued at $1.2Bn (Series C) in Nov 2019.
Previously, Joanna was Vice President, Principal Investments for a Hong Kong listed company with direct and affiliate operations across APAC specialty finance (SEHK:86). In that role, she was a founding member of a $2Bn institutional investment platform and managed a $700M global private equity portfolio (on balance sheet) alongside the group executive chairman, with a focus on financial services and technology, including technology partnerships with specialty lenders in the portfolio. Before that, while at Morgan Stanley she was nominated by the MSREI Asia COO to a core global team building a new open-end APAC fund strategy from inception to approval and launch ($650M, now over $2Bn). She has also run economic scenario planning at Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office, and with the Board of Directors of a Singapore-listed global conglomerate (SGX:BN4), and has researched international trade negotiations at Stanford’s Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) and Center for International Development (SCID).
Joanna received her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Harvard, and master’s degrees from both the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Cambridge (Trinity College), where she was a Gates Cambridge Scholar.
