Genger Charles

Genger Charles leads Government Relations & Strategy for Amherst Holdings. In this role, Genger interacts governmental agencies and an array of housing stakeholders to identify opportunities for Amherst to grow new channels and markets while factoring in the objectives of policymakers as it relates to the creation and preservation of housing.  Additionally Genger focuses on growing ESG (environment, social, governance) awareness across the Amherst portfolio.
Prior to Amherst, Genger served as a Director of Banking and Capital Markets within the Consumer Finance Group at PricewaterhouseCoopers where she provided subject matter expertise on federal laws and regulations and led practice development efforts for affordable and rental housing. Prior to PwC, she was General Deputy Assistant Secretary and Interim Commissioner  of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Genger holds a Bachelor of Science in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University,  a Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School and is licensed in New York State. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and Civic Builders, a non-profit developer of charter schools.
