Melanie Herald leads State Street’s Commercial Real Estate lending business, responsible for the company’s U.S. portfolio. Previously she was Head of Alternative lending, a role in which she managed the company’s $13B subscription finance lending business to private equity clients.
Melanie joined State Street in 2019, after having served as Head of Capital Markets for a New York City-based multi-family operator, Urban American, and run her own real estate advisory business, Cayton Capital, focused on fundraising, investor relations, and large fund recapitalizations for real estate private equity clients. Prior to these roles, Melanie was with Goldman Sachs for 9 years in a senior institutional sales role focused on structured mortgage products.
Melanie earned a master of business administration degree from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Bowdoin College with concentrations in Spanish and Economics. Melanie was awarded a year-long post-graduate Thomas J. Watson Fellowship for independent study, sits on the Board of PopTracker, a technology company and REFA, the Real Estate Finance Association of Boston. She also served on the Board of FORCE, a non-profit focused on supporting families navigating hereditary cancers.
